Hi Waub.

I hope it is ok to comment here. I was not sure how else to get in touch with you. I just wanted to say I say the video you put together in regards to our situation at the house. It is really well done and I want to say thank you. We are getting phone calls and emails from friends that watched it this evening.

Thank you again and again!!!!

I made the same trip down to see QOTSA at the Metropolis. Fantastic show. The Metropolis is one of the best places on the planet to see a concert. Them Crooked Vultures at the Metropolis was the highlight of 2010.

Tried to comment but I don't think it worked. Sorry if you end up with two comments from me :)

I like your list. Copied your subject for my latest post: http://peopleisplace.blogspot.com/2011/12/top-5-live-shows-of-2011.html

Have started looking ahead to next year already and see Buck 65 is playing the Blacksheep January 28. Could be a good start to Ottawa's 2012 concert year!

Aanii Jeremy, chi-miigwetch for your comments! I'm glad this post resonated with you. It's a very common experience and I think you should be commended for keeping the spirit alive! My classmates and I are talking about creating some kind of online forum to keep up our studies. I'll keep you posted on how that develops.

V, I'm also glad you took something away from this post, having grown up in a much different culture. I'm also very excited to hear you are reading my book! My dream is to one day translate it into Anishinaabemowin. Miigwetch for the support!

Hi Waubgeshig:

Do you know where I can buy your book in Ottawa? Doesn't look like there are any in stock at Chapters. I know I can order online but I was hoping to get my hands on a copy early this week.

Kindest regards,

Andrea

Beautiful post, thanks for sharing. I get the shame part. I spent time with my family in Ecuador this summer and definitely felt embarassed at my inability to hold a conversation with them. My dad immigrated to Canada in the 70s and experienced a lot of racism so chose not to teach me and my sibs Spanish as kids. He wanted us to be 100% Canadian (whatever that means!) Btw, am in the middle of reading your book right now and just want to commend you for telling such an important story. Maybe you could translate a passage once your Anishinaabemowin skills develop a bit more?

Waub.. ahneen. Jeremy indi-zhinikaz. Miigwech niibowa for the post. I'm in the same Anishinabe language jiiman. Living away from the people makes it very difficult to really learn the language. It's important, challenging and fun to speak our language. My personal goal is to considered a "fluent" speaker during my lifetime.

This is just an idea... but maybe we could start an online chat, "Shinob-inar" for people looking to practice Ojibwemowin.

What time did they push that old car? Probably indian time!
